The Peace-Building Backstory
My mother died of bile duct cancer on June 5, 2020. I cared for her every day while on hospice, and I watched and literally assisted with her last breaths. It was the most excruciating yet most precious 28 days of my life. Afterward, I found it extremely hard to harness and keep my peace of mind.
Each week in grief therapy I talked about the ways in which I've struggled to get it, and the ways I've managed to grab a handful and treasure it. I've always been after peace, but now, with having to battle this grief along with the perils of life, the game has changed majorly. I realize I have to be even more diligent in making sure I secure my peace, all day, every day.
My Peace Is Unavailable® is something that came to me in an Instagram post I wrote in mid-April 2021. I tacked on a line at the end, almost as an afterthought. I had suggested to people to let others find someone else's peace to interrupt. The sentiment ended there, until a few seconds later when I typed: Yours is unavailable. I instantly had a lightbulb moment and knew I was on to something important. I ordered a My Peace Is Unavailable® T-shirt the next day and started a [second] IG page called My Peace Is Unavailable®, where I now post daily peace-building encouragement.
My peace is unavailable to be destroyed, toyed with, interrupted, stolen, made light of, disregarded, and any other shenanigans that people and life try to throw at me. It's even unavailable for my own self-love mishaps.
My peace is unavailable is my motto, and I plan on representing it daily. It's my responsibility to fight for, advocate for, stand up for, and hold on to my peace, regardless of who or what has to go by the wayside in the process.
No matter what challenges you're tackling in your world, you deserve peace. But you'll have to take a bold stand for it daily.
